New month-end close time

01

The challenge

Every month the close touches bank and credit card reconciliations, AP invoice intake and open-balance checks, customer invoicing, expense and income classification, journal entries, exception review, and KPI checks. Most of it lived in people's heads, not in any documented workflow.

02

What we did

One recording, mapped by Diligent4 into 3 phases and 10 steps, then scored against the four automation platforms already in the team's stack. MS Power Platform came out on top at an 83% fit.

03

The value

6 of the 10 steps run unattended, 3 more complete with a person approving, and 1 stays manual where the judgement call needs context that isn't on screen. The team that was sceptical is now rolling Diligent4 out across the department.

Mapped and automated

Ten steps. Each one knows who runs it.

The close, mapped from one recording into three phases. The repetitive parts run unattended; the judgement calls stay with the team.

Agentability analysis

Scored against the platforms already in their stack.

No new tooling to buy. Every step scored on each of the four platforms the team already runs, and one recommended.

Each step scored on each platform. Power Platform and UiPath tie on fit; Power Platform was recommended. Manual steps are flagged, not forced.

What they gained

The team was sceptical about handing a finance-critical process to automation. Once it went live, what used to stretch across the first days of the month was done in a single workday.

Scaling beyond one use case

One finance workflow built trust. Then the whole organisation.

Diligent4 scanned the rest of the organisation the same way, ranking every opportunity by projected return.
